Glenn Butler
Re-Recording Mixer and all round Sound Man
You may have heard on the grapevine, and for those that were not aware, it was with great sadness and 85dB of regret that Glenn 'Barney' Butler hung up his ears at Deluxe StageOne Sound this year.
After more than ten years of passionate and dedicated work at Atlab & Deluxe, with time spent in the lab, optical sound xfers, as king of the Kine mix and over the past couple of years making a name for himself as a re-recording mixer on shorts, documentaries and features, Glenn regretfully resigned from his position at StageOne to ventured out on a new path, in a new industry, saying goodbye to sound post production altogether.
Many of you have worked directly with Glenn, some were just safe in the knowledge that he was looking after your sound neg, your sound edit or your sound mix, assured that it was in the hands of someone who listened and who cared.
He has been the rock and foundation of StageOne Sound over the last three years and none of what has been achieved here in that time would have been possible without him. We owe him more than we could ever hope to repay. From the dirty and hard work helping to build the new theatres, working out QC issues with answer prints, pulling the sound camera apart, getting Baz's 'Australia' finished with moments to spare or winning an ASSG award for best sound for a documentary for 'Contact', there just ain't another like him. Glenn's knowledge of film sound is truly unique and cannot be substituted. His experience, intelligence, knowledge and humour will be sorely missed and impossible to ever replace.
Faders down, monitoring muted, tail out, we wish Barney all the best in his new career and life.
